3-plank trucks are rolling stock used for transporting goods and materials throughout the railways, such as the North Western Railway.

They are also simply known as trucks in the UK narration or cars in the US narration. They only appeared in the second series.

Biography

After being pushed by the Troublesome Trucks, Percy crashed into a brake van, destroying it and perching himself on top of the remains of a 3-plank truck. [1]

Personalities

Despite being faceless, the 3-plank truck Percy lands on is said to "groan", implying sentience. [1]

Technical Details

Basis

The 3-plank trucks are based on the real London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) 3-plank open wagons. These wagons were owned by the LMS with some later being owned by British Railways. Some 3-plank open wagons are preserved by the Bluebell Railway. [2]

Livery

The 3-plank trucks are painted in the same shade of brown.

Trivia

  • The models of the 3-plank trucks are scratch-built and utilise a tanker and van Tenmille chassis and frame.
