4-Plank Trucks are a type of open wagon. Several different types of these trucks are owned by the North Western Railway.

LMS 4-Plank Truck[]

A former LMS 4-Plank Truck is owned by the North Western Railway.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

This truck is based on a real London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) 4-plank open wagon. These wagons were owned by the LMS, with some later being passed into British Railways ownership.

Livery[]

The 4-plank truck is painted grey. The letters "LMS" (albeit with the "L" and "S" being quite faded) as well as its number (251786) and its weight (6 TONS) are painted on its sides in white.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • The 4-plank truck from the television series is now in possession of Twitter user ThomasTankMerch.[1]
  • According to the date on the underside of the 4-plank truck, it was modelled on 9 December 1924.[2] This makes it the single oldest prop used in the television series.
