A Big Day for Thomas is a US VHS/DVD featuring seven first series episodes narrated by George Carlin. It was distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment in 1998 and again on VHS in 2003. It was released on DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment in 2007 featuring two songs and was also released in 2007 and 2008 as part of a Double Feature with Trust Thomas. Lionsgate released the title in 2009 on DVD and for digital download in 2013.

- This is the only US DVD release to feature the US dubs of Henry's Special Coal, The Flying Kipper and Toby the Tram Engine.

- The Hulu description incorrectly refers to this release as a Cuban music documentary.
- On the 2003 VHS and 2007/2009 DVD covers, Toby's funnel is missing.
- Duck, Donald and Stepney appear on the back cover, but they do not appear in any episodes and they weren't introduced until the second and the fourth series, but however, Duck appears in the 2 songs and the Character Gallery.
- The VHS/DVD back covers and the 1999 and 2003 tapes read 39 minutes when it should be 36 for the VHS and 41 for the DVD, respectively.
