A New Roof is a magazine story.
Plot[]
One rainy night, Edward is awoken by a strange tapping sound inside his shed. He soon notices that there is a hole in the shed roof and rain is getting through. Edward informs the stationmaster next morning, but the stationmaster ignores the need for roof repairs and gives Edward a bucket.
Edward soon grows used to the sound of rain dripping into the bucket when more leaks begin to form in the roof. Edward wishes the stationmaster would do something about them but he only provides more buckets. Edward ends up hardly being able to sleep with all the dripping noises.
In the morning, regardless of what his driver and fireman do, Edward will not start due to his exhaustion. The stationmaster runs into the shed to see what the matter is when he winds up tripping over one of his buckets and gets soaked. The stationmaster finally sends out workmen to fix the roof and Edward is happy to finally get a good night's sleep.
