Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki

A Picture of Thomas is a magazine story.

Plot[]

While waiting at a station, Thomas notices a young girl crying because she never has anything to do on train rides. When he returns to the station, Thomas suggests to the Fat Controller to host a drawing competition, with the best picture winning a prize.

The idea is put into action, with each train being supplied with a box of paper and coloured pens so that children can draw their favourite engine and enter the picture into the competition by handing it to the guard.

When he next sees the young girl, she is crying again. This time, it’s because she does not think she is any good at drawing. Thomas encourages her to try anyway, however she still does not want to enter her picture into the competition.

That night, the Fat Controller checks the engines to make sure no entries have been left behind by accident and discovers the girl's drawing of Thomas. Thomas explains the situation, however the Fat Controller believes it to be the best drawing of them all.

The young girl is delighted to learn that she has won the competition and the prize of free train rides all over the Island of Sodor with Thomas for the day. The girl explains that she loves train rides now and Thomas is pleased that his plan worked.
