- “Sometimes carriages need a spring clean, just like a house does. Especially Really Useful ones, like Annie!”
A Spring Clean is a magazine story.
Sir Topham and Lady Hatt are cleaning their house. Their grandchildren, Stephen and Bridget, help too and after all the work is done the Fat Controller takes them to the station where they meet Thomas with Annie and Clarabel. The carriages are looking a bit grubby, so the Fat Controller sends them to the washdown. Soon, the cleaners spot a spring sticking out of one of Annie's seats. Annie is very pleased when it is mended and the two coaches are sparkling again - just like Sir Topham's house.
