"I was so focused on wanting to be Percy's partner, I wasn't giving you a chance."
― Thomas to Diesel

A Wide Delivery is the eleventh episode of first series.

Plot[]

Thomas and Percy are chugging down the line playing a fun game of My Eye Spy and giving each other ‘sky-fives’ as best friends do. But as they enter Knapford Station, Thomas and Percy are both shocked and confused to see cottages moving along the rails. They catch up to find Kana and Kenji pulling the cottage together as a team. Carly and Sandy arrive to explain that the cottages are so wide that they built special rigs that span across two tracks to carry them, meaning two engines are needed to pull a cottage as a team. Thomas is very excited, saying he and Percy would make a perfect best friend team for the job. But when Thomas turns around, he finds Percy is no longer next to him. Instead, Percy is talking with Nia, who asks him if he wants to be her pulling partner, which Percy accepts. Thomas is confused and asks who will be his partner if Percy is working with Nia. He soon gets his answer: Diesel.

Thomas suggests that they play a "Switch Partners" game, clearly wanting to work with Percy rather than Diesel. Diesel, with attitude, suggests they play the "Let's Start this Delivery" game instead. Percy and Nia leave the yard and even start to play My Eye Spy. Thomas gasps and rushes away after the two of them, dragging Diesel and the cottage along for the ride. Percy and Nia puff down the line playing their game and soon approach some twisty tracks. Percy is worried, but Nia is calm and comforting, and so the two slowly make it through the tracks with ease. Oppositely, Thomas goes too fast trying to catch up with Percy, and so he and Diesel have a rather rough ride on the bumps and turns. They nearly crash into James' tanker train at the level crossing and have to catch their cottage after it launches into the air. Afterwards, Thomas still wants to catch up to Percy, which Diesel does not really understand. Diesel offers to start their own game of My Eye Spy in the tunnel... which gets rudely interrupted by a stinky skunk. Thomas and Diesel both get a face full of skunk spray, but both have a good laugh at how green they look.

Thomas still wants to catch up with Percy, especially after seeing him and Nia ‘sky-fiving’, but Diesel does not want any more games. With a cheeky grin, Thomas convinces Diesel that they could race Percy and Nia and beat them to the seaside. Diesel instantly agrees and they zoom off down the track. But as they whoosh up the hill, their couplings break and the cottage races down the hill and lands in the mud. Thomas and Diesel try their hardest, but they cannot get it out of the mud. Thomas is upset that he has messed up the delivery and lost his best friend, but Diesel explains that games are not exclusive to best friends and can be played with all of his friends. Thomas feels much better and apologizes for not giving Diesel a chance as his partner. Together, the two work together to pull the cottage out of the mud and to the seaside. Thomas and Diesel even manage to give each other a ‘sky-five’, which upsets Percy at first until Thomas reassures the green engine that they are still the best of friends. With the cottages all delivered, Thomas, Diesel, Percy, Nia, Kana, and Kenji all decide to play My Eye Spy on the way back home.
