"I'm not scared of animals at all now, and it's all thanks to you, Thomas!"
― Ace

Ace's Brave Jump is a magazine story illustrated using images from the television series. Originally published in 2021, it was reprinted in 2024 as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series with slight alterations to the images and text.

Plot[]

One day, while working on the Australian Railway, Thomas passes his old friend Ace the racing car. He is practising a daredevil jump for a Super Stunt Show that he's due to perform the next day. Ace takes off perfectly and all is going well until he spots a baby kangaroo hopping along the ground close by. Ace scrams in horror and lands badly. Ace confides in Thomas that he is actually a bit scared of animals and thinks they are dangerous.

Thomas decides to take Ace into the Bush to show him that not all animals are dangerous, but every animal they meet scares Ace, even though they are actually more scared of him. Finally, Ace is able to conquer his fear when they meet some baby emus. Ace stays very quiet and allows the cute birds to come up to him. Ace is even okay when a frog jumps onto his roof and gives him a shock. Ace thanks Thomas for showing him that not all animals are scary.

The next day, lots of people arrive to watch Ace's big stunt jump. The double-decker buses that Ace was meant to jump over don't show up, so the Australian engines and Thomas take their place. Ace speeds up the ramp and into the air. He whoops in joy as he soars over all the engines. Just then, Thomas spots the baby kangaroo hopping along near to where Ace is about to land. Thomas is concerned that the kangaroo will put Ace off his landing, but it doesn't and Ace manages to land perfectly. The crowd claps and cheers as Ace thanks Thomas once again for helping him to conquer his fears.
