Aeroplanes (UK) or airplanes (US) are aircraft used in the sky. Various aeroplanes have been seen on the Island of Sodor. Dryaw Airfield and the Sodor Airport house a number of them.

CBECC[]

CBECC was the tail designation for a biplane seen at Dryaw Airfield.

CBECC is based on a private aeroplane flown by art director Robert Gauld-Galliers during his days at flying school.

Livery[]

The biplane is painted grey with a red stripe across it. The letters "CBECC" are painted in black along its tail.

  • CBECC's rotating propeller was achieved by using a transparent disk.
  • A second biplanes of identical design to CBECC appears in the annual story Percy's Passengers.

G-HEWI[]

G-HEWI is a yellow monoplane seen at Dryaw Airfield.

G-HEWI is based on a Piper J-3C-65 Cub with the same registration.

G-HEWI is painted yellow with black stripes under its windows. The letters "G-HEWI" are painted in black along its tail.

D-AGDF is an aeroplane which resides at Sodor Airport. It was the first aeroplane to land here after its completion.

The Red Aeroplane[]

The red aeroplane is an aeroplane which resides at Sodor Airport. Out of the three aeroplanes seen at Sodor Airport, it is the only one for which the registration code is currently unknown.

The yellow aeroplane is an aeroplane which resides at Sodor Airport. In only appears in the My Thomas Story Library and Engine Adventures books.

The RAF Biplane is a British fighter aircraft.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

The biplane was based on a Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 built for the First World War. It was developed at the Royal Aircraft Factory by a team consisting of Henry Folland, John Kenworthy and Major Frank Goodden. It was one of the fastest aircraft of the war, while being both stable and relatively manoeuvrable.

Beechcraft Super King Air[]

The Beechcraft Super King Air is a twin-turboprop aeroplane. One of these was seen heading towards the Sodor Airport when Baz and Bernie stole Kenji as their getaway vehicle.

Basis[]

These planes are based on the King Air B200 manufactured by Beechcraft. They were initially used for military service, but entered civil use in 1974. Australia currently leases a number of B200s as part of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and the Royal Australian Air Force. Emerson and Isla share the same basis.

The Hawker Hurricane came to Sodor to take part in a big flypast to celebrate the end of World War II.

The Avro Lancaster[]

The Avro Lancaster, commonly known as the Lancaster Bomber, is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It came to Sodor to take part in a big flypast to celebrate the end of World War II.

The Supermarine Spitfires[]

The Supermarine Spitfires are fighter planes who helped win the Battle of Britain during World War II.

The Light Aircraft[]

“I was very low on fuel and barely had two minutes' flying time left! I was desperate for a safe landing place and without your help, I'd never have found one in time!”

The Light Aircraft is a small plane that once ran low on fuel while flying over the Quarry Tramroad. Toby helped the aircraft land safely in a field near the line. The pilot of the aircraft was very grateful and Toby took the distressed pilot to a nearby airfield to collect some more fuel.
