Alf is an 0-4-0 narrow gauge diesel that works on the Talyllyn Railway. It has a maximum speed of 9 mph. Alf was built in 1950, using parts of another engine stored at Brynglas.
Alf was named after Lord Alfred Robens, a politician and Chairman of the National Coal Board between 1961 and 1971.
Fred on the Skarloey Railway is based on Alf. Alf has often been given a face to resemble Fred at "Duncan Days" events on the Talyllyn Railway.
