- "What does he mean by, 'Any old iron?'"
- ― Thomas
Any Old Iron? is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Thomas is passing by on a level crossing when he sees a man with a horse and cart. His driver explains what a scrap dealer does, which frightens Thomas. He tells Henry and Gordon that afternoon. But while Henry is startled, Gordon does not care about his story. He carries on joking to the other big engines. Then, suddenly, a rough and tough scrap dealer questions all the engines, who is heard by Sir Topham Hatt nearby. They order the engines to meet them at the goods yard, where Sir Topham Hatt gives Thomas a task: to bring an old truck full of workshop scrap, so he can fill the scrap dealer's horse-drawn cart with them. Thomas is relieved to have found out and everyone happily jokes about the old iron.
