Balladrine Bridge is an arched stone bridge on the Main Line spanning the Hawin Russagh and the road connecting Balladrine and Killaban. It is located south-west of Balladrine, between Killdane and Kellsthorpe Road.
History[]
Balladrine Bridge was built in 1915 by the North Western Railway, alongside the rest of the section of the Main Line between Killdane and Kellsthorpe Road.
In 1951, both Gordon and Henry were stopped on the bridge by a rogue cow named Bluebell. Both engines, their crews and their passengers tried to move her, but to no avail. Eventually, a porter brought her calf (who was ready to go to market) to lure her off of the bridge.[1]
