This is a behind the scenes subpage for Beresford (AEG).
This subpage contains all behind the scenes material relating to said article.

Background Information[]

Beresford is a fictional rolling gantry crane created by Ian McCue and Andrew Brenner.

He first appeared in the second series episode, Hot Air Percy, which first aired in 2022.

Unlike the original series, Beresford lives on the Island of Sodor rather than the Mainland. He is also able to travel on normal railway lines, albeit spanning across three tracks.

Behind the Scenes[]

Beresford in All Engines Go uses a series of complicated 2D rigs created by Nelvana Studio. These rigs are made up of different assets, which can be stretched, squashed and posed to create the desired movements and poses. Beresford's movements are handled by an animation team, with a posing team to create specific poses as required for certain shots.[1]

Beresford's 2D design has undergone many changes from the design used in the original series:

  • He now has grey-brown irises.
  • His blue paint is slightly darker than before.
  • He is now situated on regular railway tracks instead of gantry rails.
  • His wheels are now blue.
  • The white stripes on his front have been removed.
  • His upper footplate now has a back section.
  • He gained rivets around his face.
  • He is now able to move anywhere rather than being in one place. This makes him the first crane character to do so.
  • He no longer speaks with a Caribbean accent in the English dubs.
