Trivia

  • An audio cassette tape was included with some VHS releases for a limited time. It featured the following songs:
  • The DVD was originally released exclusively as part of the Best of Collection DVD boxset in October 2003. It later was given an individual release in February 2004.
  • Unlike other "Best of" releases, this release includes nameboard intermissions.
  • This is the only "Best of" release to feature episodes from Series 5 and narrated by Alec Baldwin.
  • The credits from Percy's Chocolate Crunch and Other Thomas Adventures are used. Because of this, David Maidment, Britt Allcroft and David Mitton are not credited for the episodes written. Brian Trueman is incorrectly given credit for the stories instead and the Nick Jr. logo is seen after the credits. However, on the 2009 re-release, the HiT Entertainment and Nick Jr. logos are nowhere to be seen and, after the credits, the Thomas & Friends Website Screen can be seen.
  • Whistles and Sneezes and Tender Engines are sourced from Daisy and Other Thomas Stories, as the episode titles and following nameboard sequences are the same as they were on that release. On the VHS version, the episodes have an echoed soundtrack as they did on some copies of the Daisy and Other Thomas Stories VHS, though these were replaced with unechoed audio on the DVD release.
  • Gordon and the Famous Visitor and Wrong Road both have echoed soundtracks on the VHS version. This is corrected on the DVD release.
  • This and Thomas and His Friends Help Out are the first DVD releases without any songs and this is the first Best of DVD without a read-along story.
  • The VHS and DVD have different Anchor Bay Entertainment logos at the beginning. The VHS opens with the 1998 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo (without sound), while the DVD opens with the 2003 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo. This is the last US VHS to use the 1998 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo with no sound.
  • The back cover shows a deleted scene of Gordon pulling the goods train in The Trouble with Mud. This is not present on the back cover of the 2005 slimcase DVD, however.
  • The first line of the description is a parody of the opening titles of "Superman."
  • On the original release, the "Britt Allcroft Presents" logo sequence is cut out but it is reinstated on the VUDU digital release.
  • The Starz release features different title cards and no nameboards. All episodes immediately start after the previous ends except for Gordon Takes a Dip which has a fade.
  • The VUDU digital release opens with the 1999 Thomas & Friends logo.

Goofs

  • The last few seconds of Gordon Takes a Dip are cut out.
  • On the back cover, A Better View for Gordon is just called "Better View for Gordon."
  • The back cover of the 2005 slimcase DVD features the image from A Better View for Gordon twice, although the image and its duplicate are cropped differently.
  • On the 2007 DVD back cover, 4 Sing-Along Songs and Read-Along Story are listed but they are not on this DVD.
  • At the end of the intermission on the VHS just before "Tender Engines," it is said that a music video would follow. This was corrected on the DVD release.
  • On the Starz release:
    • Gordon Takes a Dip is given its UK title during the intro and Ringo Starr is credited as narrator.
    • Wrong Road is misnamed Gordon and the Famous Visitor.
  • Some copies of the "Best of Gordon Songs" cassette tape have a label error that reads "Thomas Gets Bumped Songs."
  • When "Whistles and Sneezes" begins, the chapter doesn't start at the very beginning. Instead, it starts on Gordon's line, "Why should Henry have a new shape?"
