The Front of BoCo:
The Rear of BoCo
As stated in James and the Diesel Engines, engines with two-cabs can be operated at either end - and therefore they have a face at each end. BoCo, along with Toby and Daisy, is one of the few engines with twin-cabs to have both faces appear throughout the Railway Series.
BoCo is a Metropolitan-Vickers Type 2 Class 28 diesel-electric locomotive, named after its wheel arrangement, which is known as "Co-Bo". Originally, BoCo carried the number D5702, which belonged to a real BR Class 28. The real D5702 was built in 29 September, 1958, and was withdrawn on 7th September, 1968, before being scrapped at J. Cashmore Scrapyards the following year.
Behind the Scenes[]
Awdry's Model[]
Wilbert Awdry had a model of BoCo. It was a Hornby Dublo Class 28 with no modifications. This model was used as reference for the illustrators, hence the reason why BoCo was numbered D5702. It is presently at the Tywyn Narrow Gauge Museum at the Talyllyn Railway.
