Bouncing About is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Thomas and Percy have been tasked to collect a coal shipment from the harbour. Once there, the stationmaster tells the two engines to make their return journey via the old seaside line as the regular line needs repairs. Thomas and Percy are very excited to visit the beach.
When passing the beach, Thomas and Percy can see plenty of people either playing in the water or the sand. Then Percy spies two children going up and down on some sort of springy bed and wonders how they are doing that. His driver explains that the bed is called a trampoline. Percy thinks the trampoline would be great fun but Thomas feels it would be much too uncomfortable.
Later, Thomas is sent out for more coal while Percy has to collect timber from the sawmill. Percy tries to get The Fat Controller to swap jobs so he can see the trampoline again but The Fat Controller says no. At the sawmill, Percy is directed to a siding where the timber will be loaded. The heavy timber starts to make some of the old rails Percy is on loose and Percy begins to bounce about as he moves. Percy's driver says he will speak to The Fat Controller about replacing the rails and Percy says that Thomas was right about bouncing being uncomfortable.
