Boxy was an old boxcar from the Maintenance Yard which Thomas is fond of. He has since been rebuilt as a repair hut for Carly and Sandy and now stands next to the main shed at the Maintenance Yard.

Biography[]

Boxy was first found by Thomas on his day off, when he used the old boxcar and a beach ball he named "the Orb of Destiny" to keep himself entertained.[2] Later, on a Halloween night, a tarpaulin accidentally blew onto Boxy, making Thomas, Percy, Diesel and the Troublesome Trucks think it was a ghost train.[3]

By the time of the second series, Boxy was close to the point of completely falling apart. Thomas tried to find parts to repair him, but did no good. After gaining advice from Whiff, Thomas was inspired to try again and he, with the help of Carly and Sandy, restored Boxy to look brand new.[1]

Despite being repaired, Boxy was still an old boxcar and needed delicate treatment. Unfortunately, Thomas handled Boxy too roughly, which ended up with him being almost completely destroyed by a boulder at Crumble Canyon while on a delivery. While Sandy was unable to repair Boxy this time, she and Carly used the salvageable parts to convert Boxy into a repair hut as a surprise for Thomas.[4]

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

Boxy is based off of typical steel-bodied boxcars used in North America, and mostly resembles the 40 foot boxcar used by major Class I railroads in the US and Canada due to its short length.

Livery[]

Boxy is currently painted a golden yellow with a purple running board and roof. When he was a boxcar, he also had slate blue wheels.

Prior to being rebuilt in Good as New, Boxy's body was mainly painted pink, with patches of purple, yellow and bluish-grey.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Both of the episodes from the first series in which Boxy appeared share their names with other episodes from the original television series.
  • Boxy is the only named vehicle in All Engines Go to not be sentient.
