Break Van is a magazine story based on the episode of the same name from the second series of the television series.

Plot[]

Donald and Douglas arrive on Sodor, however only one engine was expected. A spiteful brake van starts to cause trouble for Douglas and Donald teaches it a lesson by bumping it hard. Donald later crashes his tender into a signal box, resulting in James having to handle the goods work. The spiteful brake van and the trucks hold back James until Douglas helps him up the hill. Douglas pushes so hard that the spiteful brake van breaks into pieces. Edward commends Douglas, but the Fat Controller is left with a heavy mind.

Trivia[]

  • In the original sketches by Timothy Marwood, the Spiteful Brake Van's face was based on his Model Series counterpart. However, in the final illustrations, the face was re-illustrated to resemble a generic troublesome van face.
    • Furthermore, in the Spiteful Brake Van's face was removed from the final version of the last illustration.

Goofs[]

  • James' lining on his wheel arches, cab and tender are all yellow instead of black.
    • Additionally, James is also missing his safety valve.
