- "You weren't concentrating, Thomas. Lucky for you that the buffers were there."
"That's what buffers are for; to stop engines from crashing." - ― James and Thomas, Thomas and the Magic Railroad
Buffers (also known as Buffer Stops) are devices designed to prevent rolling stock from going past the end of a section of track.
Trivia[]
- Percy once used a new set of buffers as the "something new" of the Good Luck Package for Mrs. Kyndley's daughter's wedding.
- In Thomas and the Magic Railroad, there are shown to be a special set of buffers which act as a portal to the Magic Railroad.
- While a variety of designs were used throughout the model series, since the switch to CGI, almost all buffers use the same mesh (albeit scaled down for narrow and minimum gauge examples).
- The heads of the buffers used in the CGI series are reused from Thomas. They are also set to the height of his front set of buffers, resulting in them being much lower than those of most other engines.
- The only exceptions to this rule are the sets of buffers at the ends of Reg's tracks and the buffers at the end of the Arlesburgh West Ballast Chute.
