Bumps and Buffers is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Diesel is very busy at the harbour. The Fat Controller believes he could use some help and sends for Thomas. Diesel grumpily believes things will go even slower with Thomas' help.
Thomas is cross when he hears what Diesel has been saying about him but decides to ignore it. At one point while they work, Diesel sneaks up behind Thomas' trucks and gives them a rough bump, startling Thomas. Diesel blames the trucks for what has happened and rudely reminds Thomas to take care.
Thomas soon figures out it was really Diesel's fault and suddenly lets out a big, sooty sneeze. The cloud of soot ends up blinding Diesel. Just ahead on Diesel's track is a bank of earth being used as a buffer zone. Diesel bumps into the bank very hard. Diesel is unhurt but very shaken and decides not to bump Thomas and the trucks again.
