Plot[]
One morning, Gordon rolls out of the sheds feeling very boastful. Thomas and Percy, however, are less than amused. The Fat Controller is also annoyed with Gordon and tells him he has received complaints about a rough journey. Gordon is shocked as he always travels with great care. The Fat Controller tells Gordon to make sure he is being truthful, or else Henry will take over the express.
Next morning, Gordon travels as smoothly as he can, but the Fat Controller still receives phone calls from passengers complaining about their journey. The Fat Controller decides to send Duck out with a train of engineers. Near Gordon's Hill, Duck feels a section of track wobble underneath him. The engineers inspect it and discover the sleepers are rotting away. The Fat Controller is informed and instructs the engineers to fix the track before tomorrow's express.
The engineers work all throughout the night and are ready by morning. Thomas helps by transporting the new rails and sleepers, while Percy helps clear away the old ones. The Fat Controller congratulates them and apologises to Gordon for his previous assumption, leading Gordon to still be able pull his train. A sleepy Thomas and Percy state how important they were last night, and Gordon has to agree.
