Buzz Books were a brand of small hardcover children's books. The Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends range featured stories based on episodes from the first to fourth series and were published from 1990 until 1996. There were fifty books in the series and they originally cost around £1.50 each.

Buzz Books also produced books for other popular children's series such as Fireman Sam, Joshua Jones, Rupert, The Animals of Farthing Wood, Barney the Dog (which used illustrations by Edgar Hodges) and Tugs.

Some of these books were also released in the US by Random House and cost $3.50 each.

Trivia

  • Books 1-12 and 14-26 use the same text as the Ladybird Books.
  • Only books 1-3, 8, 17, 18, 27, 28, 30, 32, and 36 were released in the United States.
  • Some copies of the books have, instead of numbers on their spines, pictures of Thomas' smokebox, illustrated by Ken Stott, plus the title of the story.
  • The following Japanese books have corrected goofs from the English books with the permission of the publisher:[1]
    • Thomas and Bertie - The mirroring of Bertie on the front cover has been fixed because the translator's son pointed it out.
    • BoCo the Diseasel - Gordon was incorrectly referred to as Edward on the last page, this was fixed because a young reader pointed it out.
  • These books were first published at the time of the first series last showing after Thomas, Terence and the Snow/ Thomas and Bertie aired on 7 August 1990.
  • Apart from Wales, Japan, Norway and Korea, it is unknown if any other non-English countries published these books.
