Calliope Crack-Up is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.
Plot[]
One day, the engines hear a wonderful noise. It's the sound of music coming from a calliope which is a steam-powered instrument made up of lots of whistles. Gordon wants the engines to take the calliope and various other attractions to the Norramby Beach Carnival. On the way to the beach, the engines have fun bouncing along to the calliope music. Thomas bounces so hard that one of the rollercoaster cars he is pulling uncouples. The car rolls down the hill and bumps right into Percy. The impact causes Percy's truck door to open and the cow inside the wagon gets out. The cow wanders down the track after a butterfly. Diesel and Kana have to avoid the cow and, whilst dodging it, Kana accidentally bursts the bouncy castle she is hauling. Nia skids off the tracks to avoid the cow and crashes into a puddle of sticky goo. Nia is okay, but the calliope she had been pulling has fallen to pieces. With the cow still out of its wagon, the bouncy castle punctured and now the calliope smashed, Thomas declares that their delivery is totally off the rails.
The engines decide to fix things one at a time. First, they catch the cow and return him to Percy's truck. Then, they inflate the bouncy castle and patch the puncture using some goo from the puddle. They attempt to use the goo to fix the calliope, too, but it does not work. The engines are sad there will be no more calliope music and they all toot their whistles in an impression of the calliope's tune. Nia has a great idea and asks everyone to toot their whistles at the same time. The result sounds just like the calliope.
Working together, the engines are able to fill in for the calliope at the carnival. They race around playing the merry tune for everyone to hear.
