Coupes
Coupes are cars with two doors and a sloped roof. They have been seen across the Island of Sodor in different locations.
In the second series, Jem Cole drove a black coupe. In the second and third series, The Vicar of Wellsworth drove a red coupe. In some episodes of the third series, Sir Topham Hatt drove a black coupe.

Trivia
- The Ertl Dick Tracy black 1936 Ford Coupe was repainted blue and was used for Sir Topham Hatt's car. A red version of Sir Topham Hatt's Car with whitewall tyres was also produced as an Ertl Collectables limited release.
- Wooden Railway produced a standard yellow coupe for Sir Topham Hatt's car in 1993. The prototype was originally green.

- Caroline is an example of a late 1920s two door saloon.

Estates are cars that have been seen across the Island of Sodor in different locations.
In King of the Railway, Sir Robert Norramby drove a yellow estate car. In the twenty-first series, Dowager Hatt drove a cream estate car.

The basis for the car is the Lagonda V12.

The estate cars are painted in different liveries, such as red, black, maroon, green, cream, yellow and blue. One estate car is painted red with its roof and window surrounds painted cream.

Trivia
- The Sodor Ambulances are based on the same design used for the vans.
- While the van and estate cars share the same basic design, the vans in the model series have more coverage over the wheels and a different grille. The CGI model reuses the estate car model without the back windows.
- A blue van at Drayton Manor is depicted with eyes in its headlights, similar to Caroline. This was created using adhesive googly eyes. However, unlike Caroline, the van lacks a nose and a mouth.
