Cattle are livestock animals usually kept on farms. Mature female cattle are called cows and mature male cattle are called bulls. Young domestic cattle are called calves. Cattle trucks are named after them and transport livestock.

Bluebell and her calf are two cows.

Biography[]

After her calf was taken to market, Bluebell mournfully trotted onto the bridge, stopping Gordon and Henry from passing. Everyone tried to coax her off, but she would not move. Henry reversed back to Crosby, where his guard informed the signalman about Bluebell blocking the bridge. A porter recognised Bluebell and stated that Bluebell's calf was at Crosby, ready to go to the market. Percy then took the porter and the calf to the bridge. When they arrived, Bluebell was reunited with her calf and the porter led them away.

  • In The Railway Series Bluebell is a Holstein Friesian cow, however, in Thomas & Friends and a magazine story, she is a Jersey cow. Bluebell's calf is a Holstein Friesian in both The Railway Series and Thomas & Friends.
  • The figure that was used for Bluebell is a Britains 1:32 scale cow figurine that are still produced to this day.
  • The calf's figure was part of the "Thomas and his Friends Visit Hamleys" display.

Champion is an inquisitive bull who lives in a field near Hackenbeck Tunnel.

Biography[]

Champion once strayed from his field by crashing through the fence and sliding down the slope. When he came across the railway and saw grass on either side, he began to eat. Daisy tried to shoo Champion away, but was scared away by him until Toby arrived and whooshed him back to his farmer.

The Bull[]

The Bull has been seen around the Island of Sodor.

Biography[]

The bull has resided in different fields. The bull was once grazing in a field close to Wellsworth when Gordon blew his whistle so loudly that it frightened Gremlin, who ran into the field where the bull mooed at him, scaring him even more. The bull was once grazing in another field that Max and Monty fell into while racing Buster. It mooed at the twin dump trucks, scaring them away. One winter, Sir Topham Hatt encountered the bull, which chased him around the fields until he managed to escape it.

The bull has been transported several times. Elizabeth was once transporting the bull when Duncan scared it with his whistle. Thomas also transported the bull, however he got stuck in a landslide, but luckily Percy came to rescue them. After Thomas told Sir Topham Hatt that Percy saved the day, the bull also agreed with him. Skarloey once transported the bull from Hill Farm to the Wharf.

Farmer McColl's Cows[]

Farmer McColl owns many cows who live on his farm.

Biography[]

One of Farmer McColl's cows once escaped through a broken fence and strayed under the Watermill's bridge, where it got stuck in the mud. The cow gave Toby, Percy and Thomas quite a fright with its mooing noises, though after they realised it was a cow, help soon arrived. Trevor winched the cow onto the bridge, where it was loaded into a wagon that Thomas took back to McColl Farm.

Farmer McColl's Prize Cow[]

Farmer McColl own a prize cow who live on his farm.

Biography[]

Farmer McColl's prize cow was once transported to the country fair by Thomas. However, when Thomas whistled at Maithwaite, he scared the cow, who escaped through the open door of his van. The cow was later coaxed back into the van with the help of a hay bale. When Thomas arrived at the country fair, the cow was put on display.

Mike's Cow is a cow who often strays onto the Arlesdale Railway's line from a nearby field.

Biography[]

When a cow once strayed onto the line, Mike tried to 'shoo' her away by whistling. However, all that happened was that his whistle shot off into the sky. The passengers and crew tried looking for it, but to no avail. The passengers then volunteered to whistle for Mike, by making noise, which caused the cow to move away from the line.

Hector is a big bull who is owned by Farmer McColl.

Biography[]

Hector once broke out of his wagon and strayed onto the track, where he gave Mac quite a fright. Despite Hector's angry appearance, he is quite calm and very obedient.

Biography[]

When James crashed into the Cow Field, a cow looked at him while his crew checked him all over to see if he was hurt. After the accident, the fence was mended and the cows returned.

When Edward was once taking some cattle trucks to the market, he passed a field where some cattle were grazing. The cattle broke through the fence and ran onto the line, where they suddenly snapped the couplings of Edward's train. Edward did not realise it until he finally reached the station.

When Thomas was transporting a billboard, a cow was on the line, which caused Thomas to quickly switch tracks and hit the buffers, causing the billboard to land into a lake.

During Toby's disappearance, due to him being stuck in his shed with a broken wheel, Thomas, Henry and Edward mistook a cow's bell for his bell.

There have been other cattle species seen abroad like in India and Australia.
