Bert and Alf are two engine cleaners who work for the North Western Railway.
Biography[]
After Gordon had slid off the turntable at Vicarstown Yards and landed in a ditch, Bert and Alf were cleaning him the next day. Alf expressed his disapproval of Gordon's complaining and asked Bert if he had seen so much mud before. Bert replied that he did not and then told Gordon that he had given both him and Alf extra work.

Biography[]
After Thomas planned to prove to Percy and Toby that he could manage without a driver, the cleaner meddled with Thomas' controls, which caused Thomas to move and crash into the Ffarquhar Stationmaster's House. It is unknown what happened to the cleaner after the accident.

When Thomas got covered in coal dust after one of the doors on Percy's coal trucks burst open, a couple of cleaners took a long time to clean Thomas up, making him late for his next train, and Toby had to take Annie and Clarabel with Henrietta.
After Wilbert took on milk by mistake at St. Pedroc's Dairy, some cleaners gave him a thorough clean after his crew emptied out the milk from his tank.
