Cleo's First Snow is a magazine story illustrated using images from the television series. Originally published in 2022, it was reprinted in 2024 as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series with slight alterations to the images and text.
Plot[]
One day, Cleo the Road Engine wakes up to something she has never seen before - snow. At first, she isn't sure she likes it, but Ruth tells her to enjoy it while it lasts and takes the little car out for a ride. As she passes children playing and building snowmen, Cleo starts to realise that snow isn't so bad after all. Next, Ruth and Cleo spot some children sledging down a snowy hill and decide to join in.
But, later that day, Cleo sees something awful - one of the children's snowmen is starting to melt. Cleo is puzzled and Ruth explains that snow melts in the sun. Cleo decides to try and save the snow herself and, with the help of the kids, she picks up a snowman and goes in search of somewhere cold to put it. Cleo searches all over and even asks Thomas if he knows of anywhere.
But nowhere can take the snowman and Cleo decides to ask Ruth for help. By the time she arrives back at the windmill, the snowman has melted completely. Cleo is upset and Ruth tries to comfort her, but it doesn't make Cleo feel much better.
A few days later, Cleo wakes up to see snow falling again! This time, it's Ruth who has made it by installing a snow machine to the top of the windmill so Cleo can enjoy the snow for as long as she wants to.
