Coal is a magazine story based on the episode of the same name from the first series of the television series.

Plot

Henry is feeling ill as usual and the Fat Controller tells him that they have tried many ways to try and make him feel better but they have all failed and that if they can't make him better, they would have to get another engine instead. The Fat Controller boards one of Henry's trains with the fireman commenting on how Henry's firebox is small and can't make steam easily, Henry tries hard, but is unable to carry on, so he is put on a siding. The fireman tells the Fat Controller that coal is wrong and that Welsh coal would help, although the Fat Controller knows that it would be expensive he tells James to bring some. When the coal arrives, Henry feels much better and he arrives at the junction early, much to the surprise of Thomas and his coaches.
