"We have a sea wall and a crab crossing."
― Carly

Crab Crossing is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.

Plot[]

One sunny day on the Island of Sodor, Carly and Sandy are busy erecting a sea wall to protect the railway lines from the waves of the sea. As Sandy puts the last piece of the wall in place, she notices a group of crabs trapped on the wrong side of the wall. Carly knows they have to help the crabs get back to the water, but the crabs scuttle away as fast as they can. They are a bit scared of Carly and Sandy chasing them.

Carly and Sandy chase the crabs all the way to McColl Farm where they meet Thomas who suggests they try herding the crabs like cowboys. Thomas' plan works and, together, they herd the crabs nearly all the way to the beach. The crabs then notice a load of dirt Thomas is hauling. Carly thinks it must remind them of the beach. One of the crabs is having so much fun in Thomas' dirty wagon, that he uncouples the trucks from Thomas and they roll backwards down the hill. The trucks roll along the tracks faster then Carly and Sandy can go. The trucks roll all the way to the mines where they fall off the rails. Carly wonders how they will ever get the crabs out of the mine. Luckily, Darcy the driller is nearby and she tells them that the ocean is just on the other side of a rock wall. Darcy uses her big drill to make a tunnel through the rock. In no time at all, the tunnel is finished and it leads directly to the beach.

The only problem is the sea wall is still there and the crabs still cannot get over it, but Sandy has a plan. Carly and Sandy work together to build a bridge over the sea wall for the little crabs. The happy crabs climb over their newly-constructed bridge and scurry straight into the sea. They wave their claws to show their two new friends, Sandy and Carly, just how happy they are.
