Cranky Bugs and Other Thomas Stories (also known as Thomas, Percy and Old Slow Coach in French-speaking Canada) is a US VHS/DVD release featuring six fifth series episodes narrated by Alec Baldwin and one song. It was distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment on VHS in 1999 and again in 2001, and on DVD in 2002. The DVD release included two different songs. Lionsgate released the title for digital download in 2013.

Trivia

  • This was the first Thomas home media release to feature Alec Baldwin's narration.
  • This is the first release of Night Train.
  • Earlier copies of the tape featured the Anchor Bay Entertainment logo at the tail end with music.
  • This is the only US VHS/DVD to feature Class 40's nameboard sequence.
  • On the front cover, an image from Horrid Lorry is used.
  • On the back cover, an image from Thomas and the Rumours is used.
  • The Amazon release has no intermissions. Instead, a segment of the opening credits displaying the title appears. The digital download release also has the remastered colour of the episodes.
  • Lady Hatt's Birthday Party comes before A Better View for Gordon, so the viewers would not know about Gordon's view at Kirk Ronan.
  • On the Canadian DVD, the bottom half of the disc uses an image of James from Busy Going Backwards in place of the image of Percy and Cranky from Horrid Lorry.

Goofs

  • Some 1999 tape labels misspell Britt Allcroft as "Beth Allcroft."
  • On one 1999 tape label, It reads (C) Britt Allcroft Thomas Ltd., 1985, 1991, but it was made in 1998.
  • On another 1999 tape label, the runtime says 46 mins, when it was supposed to be 37 mins.
  • Cranky's crane arm is cut off on the front cover.
  • On the digital download release, the episodes' audio is out of sync.
  • Thomas' whistle is crooked on the front cover.
