"Check out my crown, I feel royally awesome!"
― Rajiv

Crowning Around is a magazine story released as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series and illustrated using images from the television series.

Plot[]

Rajiv is very proud of the crown he wears atop his funnel. One day, he has it polished until it sparkles and it makes Rajiv extremely happy. As Rajiv puffs along, he is distracted by a group of cheeky monkeys. Not looking where he is going, Rajiv's crown accidentally gets knocked off his funnel. Before he can stop them, the monkeys grab Rajiv's crown and toss it over the side of a bridge. Rajiv feels terrible now that he has lost his precious crown. Rajiv goes back to his shed and refuses to do anything until the crown is found and returned to its rightful place.

Meanwhile, Rajiv's crown is travelling around the Indian Railway as it's tossed and knocked from engine to engine. At one point, it's even picked up by an elephant. Ashima, Thomas and Shankar try their hardest to find Rajiv's crown whilst doing his jobs in addition to their own. But it is all to no avail.

That evening, the engines return to their sheds exhausted. Shankar is so tired from doing Rajiv's jobs as well as his own, that he falls asleep on the rails. Suddenly, Noor Jehan races towards the sheds. Her brakes have stopped working and she cannot stop herself. Rajiv acts quickly and shunts Shankar out of the way just in time.

The next morning, Charubala comes to see Rajiv. She is most disappointed that Rajiv hadn't done his jobs, but proud that he had saved Shankar. She presents Rajiv with his crown which had been found. Rajiv is delighted and eager to get back to work.
