"A cyclone is no match for a strong and sturdy engine. Well done... Doctor Tommo!"
― Shane

Cyclone Thomas is a magazine story released as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series and illustrated using images from the television series.

Plot[]

One day, Thomas is wearily moving rocks at a mine in Australia. Suddenly, everyone at the mine starts to get excited. Isla the Flying Doctor's plane is coming in to land nearby. Shane explains to Thomas that Isla carries doctors to remote areas that are too far away from hospitals. Doctor Claire hurries from Isla to the aid of a miner who had hurt his arm. Thomas decides to help Isla by racing as fast as he can to her next appointment. By the time Thomas arrives at the next remote location, Isla is already there. She explains that planes can fly much faster than engines can roll and that it's very hard to beat a plane to an emergency. Thomas is disappointed to hear this, but then news of a new emergency reaches them; a cyclone is headed to a nearby town and Isla cannot fly through it to evacuate the residents.

Pulling Shane's coaches, Aubrey and Aiden, Thomas bravely battles through the stinging rain and howling winds. When they arrive, the townsfolk quickly board Aubrey and Aiden and Thomas makes his way back through the storm. A fallen tree blocked Thomas' path, but the brave little engine doesn't stop and shunts the tree off the line.

The passengers disembark at Darwin Station as Shane and Isla arrive to praise Thomas for a job well done.
