Daisy and the Cows is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Daisy can be a very fussy engine and has a slight fear of cows, calling them "horrible, big, noisy creatures". One day, one of the railway lines is being extended and Daisy insists that she be the one to run it. The Fat Controller agrees but wants none of Daisy's fussing.
Daisy enjoys herself at first, until she comes across a cow field. Daisy jams her brakes on and does not move. The Fat Controller is very annoyed with her. Daisy decides she better do as she is told.
Daisy tries her best to ignore the cows but it proves difficult. Daisy is at least glad the cows can not run onto the tracks but, the next day, Daisy comes across a calf on the track. Daisy's driver informs her not to make any noise as the calf is very frighted. Daisy is surprised by this as she would never harm an animal. The calf is carefully led back to his field. Daisy's driver explains that cows are gentle animals but big, noisy engines can frighten them. Daisy realises how silly she has been and promises she will no longer be afraid.
