Delicate Handling is a magazine story. The first part of this story is titled Edward at the Works, and the second part of this story is titled Overheated Henry.
Plot[]
Henry is at The Works. He was expected to be there for only two weeks but it has since become three. His new parts have still not arrived. Other engines come and go but Henry still stays behind, leaving him miserable.
One day, the engineer gives Henry good news that the parts have arrived. In no time at all, Henry is repaired and returns to the yard. The Fat Controller is pleased to have Henry back but reminds him that he must behave more sensibly as he is an old engine that needs delicate handling. James overhears this and laughs at Henry, who is cross but not for long as he is happy to be back.
One morning, a special delivery of steel and scrap iron needs to be taken to the harbour. There are far too many trucks for one engine but James is sure he can do it on his own. He does well until he comes to Gordon's Hill. The Fat Controller is cross and sends Henry to help. James is very embarrassed to have Henry as a banker but still thanks him when they reach the harbour. Henry tells him it goes to show what an old engine can do with proper handling.
