Background Information
Television Series
Dexter is a fictional coach created by Lee Pressman.
In 2018, Dexter made his debut in the twenty-second series episode, School of Duck.
Dexter is voiced by Mark Moraghan (UK/US) in the CGI version of the series on both sides of the Atlantic, respectively, after he announced he would stop narrating on Thomas and Friends.
Dexter is based on an LB&SCR Stroudley four-wheeled brake coach.
Behind The Scenes
CGI Model
Dexter was created from scratch in CGI by Jam Filled Toronto for the twenty-second series. The model was "hand-sculpted" in Maya, a 3D animation and modelling software. Instead of having an embedded face like Annie and Clarabel, Dexter has a grey face to match the other vehicles (and as his model also reuses elements of a standard brake coach, it saved on costs).
During his fantasy sequence, Dexter's road wheels are altered from one of the Blue Mountain Quarry Dump Trucks and his caterpillar tracks are reused from Oliver the excavator.
