Diesel's New Leaf is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Toby is very kind and friendly engine and treats his trucks with respect. Diesel, however, is the complete opposite and Toby is not fond of that. One day at the quarry, Diesel is acting surprisingly friendly to Toby. Toby reminds Diesel to behave himself but Diesel insists he is going to be a hard worker today.
Toby is still skeptical of Diesel but Diesel does appear to be getting his work done well and Toby is impressed. The Fat Controller is impressed too and tells Diesel that he might make him a permanent engine at the quarry. This makes Toby nervous as he might have to be relocated.
When The Fat Controller leaves, Diesel begins to chuckle. He reveals how he fooled The Fat Controller into thinking he was well behaved and now he can bully the trucks when The Fat Controller is not around. The trucks overhear this and decide they have to save Toby's job. When Diesel returns to shunt the trucks, they rattle themselves off the rails. The Fat Controller is very annoyed and threatens to send Diesel back to the station. The trucks are happy that Toby will be staying after all.
