Diesel's Plan is a magazine story. The second part of this story is called Thomas's Trick.
Plot[]
One day, Diesel is shunting trucks in the yard. The trucks are behaving badly and Diesel complains to his driver that a steam engine should be shunting the trucks while he pulls coaches.
The next morning, Diesel comes up with a plan and tells his driver that the Fat Controller has told him to take Thomas' train. When Diesel gets to the yard, Annie and Clarabel question him, and Diesel tells them that Thomas has been shut up in the shed for arguing with Gordon. Annie and Clarabel are distraught by the news and begin to cry.
While Diesel is at the platform, Thomas arrives pulling some trucks in the opposite direction. Annie and Clarabel are pleased to see Thomas, however he is confused as to why Diesel is pulling his train. Annie and Clarabel tell him what Diesel said, just in time for the Fat Controller to overhear them. He reprimands Diesel and sends him to the shed for the rest of the day, while Thomas takes Annie and Clarabel.
