Behind the Scenes[]
2D animated rigs[]
Duck in All Engines Go uses a series of complicated 2D rigs created by Nelvana Studio. These rigs are made up of different assets, which can be stretched, squashed and posed to create the desired movements and poses. Duck's movements are handled by an animation team, with a posing team to create specific poses as required for certain shots.[1]
Duck's 2D design has undergone many changes from his design used in the original series:
- A green smokebox rim and rivets have been added around his face.
- He now has green irises.
- The caps on top of his sandboxes have been removed.
- He now only has one whistle.
- His tank caps have moved to the middle of his tanks.
- The top half of his number 8 is smaller.
- The entrance to his cab (as well as the cab door) is substantially wider.
- His “GWR” lettering is much smaller and is slightly off-centre.
Originally, Duck had a slightly different design, which was later finalised for produced episodes. Differences between his original and final designs include:
- His wheels are painted yellow instead of dark grey.
- His "GWR" lettering uses a different font, is much larger, and has slight distortion.
- His irises are yellow instead of green.
- The steps on either side of his face are absent.
- His face is significantly larger.
- His handrails do not wrap around the front of his tanks and smokebox.
- The handrail next to his number 8 is absent.
- His sandboxes are slightly rounded.
- His rear wheel arch is absent.
- The top half of his number 8 is larger, bringing it more in line with the original series.
