Emily is an emerald tender engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor and is the North Western Railway's number 12 engine. She is also the island's official safety engine, and was Sir Topham Hatt's private engine before she was replaced by Winston, a car who travels on rails.

Personality

Emily loves to keep the Island of Sodor safe and on track. If an engine needs advice or a helping wheel, Emily is the engine for the job. While she used to carry Sir Topham Hatt around on most of his travels, Emily is far more confident and level-headed than him, though she does listen to him despite his dramatic speeches.

Emily is painted emerald green with yellow lining. She has three yellow squares on each side of her tender, and has the number 12 painted in yellow on the center of her tender's middle squares. She has a chocolate brown running board and valences with a red bufferbeam.

• Emily is one of only two tender engines to keep their original wheel arrangement, the other being James.
