Signal Engineers[]
Signal Engineers are engineers who repair and maintain railway signals.
Biography[]
While Percy was pulling the Mail Train, he had to wait at a broken signal, which was under repairs by some signal engineers. By the time the signal engineers finished repairing the signal, the mailbags were already loaded into Harold who had taken off.
Uniform[]
A signal engineer's uniform consists of blue trousers, an occasional black tie and a white shirt with an occasional blue or grey jacket over it. The signal engineers wear peaked caps and overalls that are either blue or brown.

Biography[]
When Toby broke down on the Main Line, Gordon was going to arrive with the Express with an engineer onboard to repair Toby. However, Thomas moved Toby into a siding and Gordon went past them with the engineer. Thomas later went to Maron to collect the engineer and bring him to Toby.

The Telephone Engineers[]
The Telephone Engineers are a group of engineers who repair and maintain telephone poles.
Biography[]
When the telephone poles were damaged by a big storm on the Island of Sodor, Sir Topham Hatt instructed Thomas to take the telephone engineers to the telephone lines around the island, so they could be repaired. However, while Thomas was doing so, he got distracted by a rainbow in the sky and ended up derailing due to hitting a fallen telephone pole. After getting rescued by Harvey, Thomas carried on with his job and took the telephone engineers around the island, until all the telephone lines were fixed.

The uniform worn by the telephone engineers consists of dark blue trousers and a white shirt with a dark blue jacket over it. They wear dark orange hardhats.

The Power Station Engineers[]
The Power Station Engineers are a group of engineers who repair power stations around the Island of Sodor.
Biography[]
During a power outage on Sodor, Sir Topham Hatt sent Thomas to take the engineers to the Sodor Power Station to repair its generator. On the way, Thomas got lost, but with the light of the shooting star, he found the power station and the engineers successfully repaired the machinery and restored the power all around Sodor.

The Specialist Engineers[]
The Specialist Engineers are two engineers who examine, repair and maintain engines and railway infrastructure, such as points.
Biography[]
When a set of points were broken, Gordon was tasked with collecting one of the engineers from Maron and taking him to the broken points. When he arrived at Maron, Gordon mistook a carpenter for the engineer and he left with the carpenter before Bertie could arrive with the engineer and other passengers. After Gordon discovered his mistake, he reversed along Thomas' line back to Maron, but was stopped at Abbey by Douglas, who was stranded there. Gordon, however, had the idea of sending Douglas to Wellsworth to inform Donald to collect the engineer and bring him up the line. The plan worked and Gordon was able to bring the engineer to the broken points and they were soon repaired.
During the construction of the Harwick Branch Line, a cavern located underneath the cutting caused the track bed to crumble and sink. Both of the engineers were called and they declared the line unsafe, to which the workmen added barriers in front of the unsafe section and made plans to reroute the track.

The Boat Engineer[]
The Boat Engineer is an engineer who works on boats.
Biography[]
While Cranky was unloading the Mayor's Yacht onto Thomas' flatbed, he told Thomas that he should wait for the boat engineer to lower the yacht's masts. However, Thomas was confident that the masts would be no trouble and he quickly set off. After Thomas had a mishap with the yacht, he left it and went to Brendam Docks, where he found the boat engineer and took him to the yacht. The boat engineer then rolled the yacht's sails and lowered the masts, so Thomas could take it to the Fishing Village. The boat engineer then went with Thomas to the launching of the Mayor's Yacht.

The Mainland Chief Engineer works for the Mainland Locomotive Company.
Biography[]
When Gordon broke down, Sir Topham Hatt informed him that the main engineer had fallen ill and decided to hire an expert from the Mainland. When Sir Topham Hatt made the call, he was informed that the expert was on holiday. Just then, a man arrived and asked Sir Topham Hatt if Gordon was alright. Sir Topham Hatt explained the situation and the man introduced himself as the Mainland chief engineer and informed him that he was on holiday. The chief engineer decided to help repair Gordon, which took almost all night. After Gordon was repaired, Sir Topham Hatt apologised to the chief engineer for making him work on his holiday. However, the chief engineer told him that working on Gordon was better than a holiday.

Ted is a former chief engineer who worked for the North Western Railway.
Biography[]
When Ted retired, the engines were sad, as they remembered what Ted had done for them, such as the time he fixed Thomas' snowplough and used a crane to lift Percy back onto the rails. Thomas could often see Ted on his way, anywhere. After Thomas saw a steamboat, which ran aground on a river, he told Sir Topham Hatt, who told Ted and the boat owner and they both tested the steamboat. Ted found that he had found his hobby again. The next day, Thomas passed the river and saw Ted on the steamboat.

Mr. Bjork[]
Mr. Bjork is an engineer from Swedish Lapland.
Biography[]
Mr. Bjork once visited the Island of Sodor and Thomas was tasked with taking him around the island to repair signal boxes. As a present, Mr. Bjork made an ice sculpture of Thomas. Unfortunately, it melted in Thomas' warm cab, much to the amusement of the other engines. Thomas was sad, but also surprised at what he saw at the sheds the next morning; a huge ice sculpture of Sir Topham Hatt and some of the engines.

Biography[]
After Rusty informed Sir Topham Hatt about the cracks in the Old Wooden Bridge's supports, Sir Topham Hatt thanked Rusty and told him that he would send some engineers to investigate the bridge, while it was being closed off.
Edward was once tasked with taking Sir Topham Hatt's car to a car mechanic at Maron. However, when Edward arrived at the station, the car mechanic had just left with Bertie. After having no luck in catching up to Bertie, Edward was going to ask a signalman to send a message to the mechanic. However, he decided not to and took the car to the Sodor Steamworks instead.
