“I think we've taken this joke too far... Paxton looked really worried."
"Don't be such a fussy buffers! It's just a joke!”
― Norman and Diesel

The Kind Diesel is a magazine story, illustrated using images from the CGI television series.

Plot[]

Paxton is one of the kindest engines on the island. He has friends all over Sodor, but there is one engine that Paxton tries extra-hard to be friends with and that engine is grumpy Diesel.

One day, Diesel decides to play a trick on Paxton and instructs all of the other diesels to hide. When Paxton clatters cheerfully into the Vicarstown Dieselworks, there are no diesels to be seen anywhere. He hurries off to look for his diesel friends.

After Paxton has left, the diesels come out of hiding. Norman thinks they have taken the joke too far, but Diesel calls him a fussy buffers and races away, laughing to himself.

At Brendam Docks, Paxton arrives to look for the missing diesels. Salty tells him he is worrying over nothing and, at the end of the day, the diesels will all be back where they belong. Just then, Diesel appears with some flatbeds. Paxton calls to him, but the devious diesel races away.

Paxton chases Diesel who keeps hiding until his tank runs out of fuel. Paxton is relieved to finally find Diesel who admits that they had been playing a trick. Paxton still wants to help his friend and kindly pushes Diesel to the next station to get more fuel. Diesel doesn't know what to say. He tries to smile his friendliest smile and that makes Paxton smile, too.
