This article is about the town. You may be looking for the stream.

Hackenbeck is a small hamlet a mile west of Ffarquhar, serviced by a halt on Thomas' Branch Line.

History[]

Hackenbeck Halt consists of a single platform with a small shelter for passengers. The halt was briefly closed under the Beeching Axe - the only station on Sodor to befall this fate - though was later reopened.[1]

The hamlet is named after its nearby stream, which the railway crosses immediately east of the station via a short trestle bridge. The station itself is just north of the Hackenbeck Tunnel, south of which Mrs. Kyndley's Cottage is located.

The village is home to the Three Beetles pub, which serves ales from Felgood's of Ffarquhar, brewed using water from the stream.[2]

Trivia[]

  • According to Wilbert Awdry, the reason he decided to have Hackenbeck halt closed under the Beeching Axe was due to him being unable to fit it on the second version of his Ffarquhar Branch layout.[1]
  • Hackenbeck Road in Columbus, Ohio, USA is named after this town.
