Background Information[]

Television Series[]

The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway vans are fictional standard gauge vans.

In 1986, The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway vans made their debut in the second series episode, Thomas, Percy and the Coal, and were seen in many episodes since until they last appeared in the sixth series episode, Gordon Takes a Tumble.

The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway vans have not been seen in the series since 2002, though continue to be used in merchandise.

These vans are based on the real Lynton and Barnstaple Railway box vans, scaled up from narrow gauge to standard gauge.

Gauge 1 models[]

The models of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway vans were made using Tenmille Gauge 1 Lynton and Barnstaple Railway 4 Wheel Box Van kits.

Multiple expressions, interchangeable with other van types, were made for the Lynton and Barnstaple vans, though only two types (laughing and shocked) are known to have been worn by them on set.

One model of these vans is currently on display at Drayton Manor Resort.

Another van was on display at the Clearwater Event in August 2022.
