The Isle of Man is a small isle off of the north-west coast of England. The Island of Sodor is located in between the Isle of Man and England.
The Isle of Man has appeared on various maps of the Island of Sodor. It is home to the Isle of Man Railway, the Manx Electric Railway, the Snaefell Mountain Railway, the Groudle Glen Railway and the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway.
In The Railway Series, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company ran steamboat services from Douglas and Ramsey to Arlesburgh between 1930 and 1936, when the Mid Sodor Railway closed to passengers.
In the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends book Thomas the Tank Engine's Dream, Thomas has a dream where he has the opportunity to visit the Isle of Man, meeting with various engines and exploring the different locations.

- The name of some landmarks on the Island of Sodor were inspired by the Isle of Man:
- The name "Sodor" came from the Diocese of Sodor and Man, which encompassed Man and formerly also the southern isles (Norse: Sudreyjar) of Scotland.
- Cas-ny-Hawin is derived from Cass-ny-Hawin, a mesolithic site.
- Balladrine is derived from Baldrine, a small village.
- The Shining Time Station and Muffle Mountain scenes in Thomas and the Magic Railroad were filmed in the Isle of Man. (Main article: Behind the Scenes)
