Fire Engines transport firemen, firefighting equipment, and water. They are dispatched for various emergencies, mainly when a fire goes out of control and must be put out.

In 2011, a fire engine was dispatched to deal with a hay bale which had caught fire at Killdane, but by the time it had arrived the fire had already been extinquished using water from Gordon's tender.[2]
