Fire Engines transport firemen, firefighting equipment, and water. They are dispatched for various emergencies, mainly when a fire goes out of control and must be put out.

Notable Fire Engines[]

The following Fire Engines have their own separate pages:

Dennis F8 Fire Engines[]

This article is about the fire engines. You may be looking for the engine.

Sodor Fire owns several Dennis F8 fire engines. In the magazine stories, they are owned by the Wellsworth Fire Station.

Biography[]

When James' train of fuel tankers caught fire, some fire engines were sent to put out the fire. Later on, a workmen's hut also caught fire, however, the fire engines quickly ran out of water and had to use water from Thomas and Percy's tanks. The fire at the workmen's hut was soon put out, but the hut was destroyed.[1]

After a windmill was struck by lightning during the night, a fire engine arrived at the scene in the morning.

When Arthur's train of fruit vans crashed into Duck, a fire engine arrived to rescue trapped people.[2]

Dryaw Airfield usually has a fire engine on standby. One of the fire engines was also used as a crash tender at the Sodor Airport.[3]

Although none of the original fire engines have been seen since Belle and Flynn's arrival, one of the signs on the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre building features a silhouette of a similar fire engine.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

The fire engines are based on the Dennis F8 type. These were built from 1946 to the 1970s. The Sodor Power Crew share the same basis.

Livery[]

The fire engines are painted red with their company's name (Sodor Fire) painted on their sides in white. Their rooftops and bumpers are painted black.

Official Description[]

From Official Media[1]

Fire Engine: The Fire Engine was called to put out two fires in one day. James' leaking fuel trucks burst into flames and then a fire at the workman's hut, but the fire engine had no water for the hut so they had to use the water from Thomas' and Percy's tanks.

Historical Note: Fire Engine is based on a design by specialist fire engine builders Dennis of Guilford Surrey. It is typical of engines turned out in the 1940's and 1950's. Persevered examples may be seen at vintage motoring events.
