Several firefighters or firemen have been seen around the Island of Sodor. They are called when fires require extinguishing or if rescues are required. They usually use fire engines.
Biography[]
When one of James' tankers was leaking fuel and caught fire, his driver telephoned the fire brigade and several firemen arrived at the scene. After the fire was put out, a fireman gave an all-clear signal for Thomas and Percy to proceed. Later on, the fire brigade were also called when the Workmen's Hut caught fire, however, the fire engines were out of water and the firemen had no solution but to let the building burn. Thomas suggested that they should use the water in his and Percy's tanks and the firemen quickly used the water from the tanks to put out the fire.
Firemen have also been called out to other situations, such as Arthur's crash with a train of vans, the aftermath of Toby's Windmill which was struck by lightning and the damaged runway at Sodor Airport.
A fireman once rescued Lady Hatt's cat from a tree and was going to be presented with a medal at a special medal ceremony held at Maithwaite. Sir Topham Hatt tasked Thomas with picking up the fireman and taking him to Maithwaite. While on the way, Thomas tried to save other engines from potential dangers, which almost made him late to pick up the fireman. When Thomas realised this, he told Percy to pick up the fireman instead. After Bertie got stuck in the mud, Thomas took the children to Maithwaite and they arrived in time to see Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt present the fireman with a medal. This fireman works with Flynn and was present, along with two other firemen, at the unveiling ceremony for the new alarm at the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre.
Uniform[]
A fireman's uniform consists of dark blue trousers, a black tie, a white shirt and a dark blue jacket with slightly lighter blue accents over it. They wear golden hardhats with a dark blue and red logo on the front of them.
