Flying Fish! is a magazine story published in 1998.
Plot[]
One day, Skarloey is pulling a cargo of apples and stops at a village station. Some schoolboys ask his driver if they could have some, with his driver noting that they have so many apples that the Fat Controller would not mind a few missing. Later that week, Skarloey delivers fresh fish which is tightly packed in special wagons. When he stops to take on water at a country station, Jack the stationmaster asks if he could have some fish for his cat.
Skarloey's driver allows him, but Jack struggles to open the wagon door. He does not notice that the Fat Controller has arrived to inspect the station when the door flies open. Smelly fish tumble all across the platform, burying Jack underneath. The Fat Controller is at a loss for words and shakes his head.
Jack and the driver work to clean the platform, but there is no more room left in the wagon to fit the remaining fish. The Fat Controller warns them to properly pack the wagon next time and tells them to leave the fish at the station. The embarrassed driver promises to never give goods away again. Jack also feels silly, but his cat ends up quite happy as she has the biggest fish supper she has ever eaten!
