Ghost Train is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.

Plot[]

One Halloween night, Thomas is telling himself a story about a ghost train while waiting for his friends in Tidmouth Sheds. Then, Thomas notices Percy's mail van. He knows Percy never forgets his mail van, so Thomas couples up to it and goes to find his friend. He is starting to wonder where all his friends are.

Suddenly, Percy pulls alongside pushing a strange truck covered in a tarpaulin. Thomas asks what the truck is. Percy uncovers his truck and reveals a Ghost Scaring Machine. Percy triumphantly declares that the ghost train won't scare him tonight, he's going to scare it. Diesel and some Troublesome Trucks see Percy and Thomas with the Ghost Scaring Machine. They decide to hide in the woods and give Thomas and Percy a fright.

Thomas and Percy chuff down the tracks with the Ghost Scaring Machine when, suddenly, they see something rolling behind them. They both think it's a ghost train and Percy turns on his Ghost Scaring Machine. Thomas and Percy are so keen to get away from the ghost train, that they steam right past Diesel and the trucks. When Diesel sees the ghostly train, he starts to race away in fright too.

A little further down the line, Thomas and Percy realise the ghost train is just Boxy the boxcar covered in a tarpaulin and the eerie squeaking noise was just his old wheels. All the engines meet up at the Maintenance Yard. Diesel still thinks Boxy is a real ghost train and when he sees it, he's scared all over again. To calm him down, Carly picks up the tarpaulin to show Diesel that it's not a ghost train at all. Thomas is relieved that their imaginations are far scarier than anything they'd find on Sodor. Just then, an owl hoots and all the engines yell in fright. Diesel decides he'll leave the light on for this Halloween night.

  • Unlike the episode:
    • Sandy and the Brown Troublesome Truck do not speak.
