"Gordon's Hill" is the nickname of the steep grade on the Main Line, between Wellsworth and Maron. It got its name after Gordon stalled there while pulling a goods train.

History[]

Bankers are often required to help trains up the hill. Edward usually performs this duty, though occasionally other engines such as Toby and Duck have done the job.

At the bottom of the hill on the western side is West Maron Junction, which leads to Ulfstead Castle. The foot of the hill is also the site of many crashes, and engines must be careful here as the Troublesome Trucks will often try and push them down it or break away.

Official Description[]

From the Writer's Bible:

Gordon's Hill: A steep hill on the mainline named after an incident involving Gordon. In a typically pompous fashion, Gordon thinks it's named after him because he’s the finest engine on the island. No engine likes this hill. It is steep and lots of accidents occur here. They often need a back engine (usually Edward) to help.

The views from the top, however, are spectacular.

After Gordon's hill are two stations: Maron, a small junction station and Crovansgate.

(Note that Crovan's Gate is misspelled as Crovansgate.)

Trivia[]

  • Gordon's Hill is one of only two locations to appear in every series of Thomas & Friends, the other being Tidmouth Sheds.
  • Unlike The Railway Series, Gordon has gotten stuck on the hill at least six times in Thomas & Friends. Once in the first series episode, Edward and Gordon, another time in the sixth series episode, Edward the Very Useful Engine, twice in the eighth series episode, You Can Do it, Toby! and twice in the eighteenth series episode, Old Reliable Edward.
    • Although Gordon also got stuck in the 2015 special, The Adventure Begins, the special recreates the same events as Edward and Gordon.
  • Gordon's Hill is one of the only locations named after a character, as well as Henry's Tunnel and Neville’s Bridge.
